Description

In China, autism is quite well known. Yet the problem remains as to how to transform social attention into real action and how to encourage people to donate to families with autistic members.

On the World Autism Awareness Day (2nd April, 2014), we invited people to wear blue masks, with the silent declaration of “No Talking Today!” people made donations to these families with autistic members.

Execution

1. Over 30 celebrities posted their photos of them wearing the blue masks of the campaign on Weibo (Chinese Twitter). These celebrities’ photos are live advertising media and some of them even showed up wearing the blue mask on TV programs.

2. 900,000 blue-mask-wearing people are 900,000 mobile advertising media/we-media.

3. The “No Talking Today” campaign was reported by over 600 main-stream media and generated more than 50 insightful articles, which were widely read on the internet.

Outcome

1. This action received feedback and support from over 30 celebrities, and more than 900,000 people volunteered to wear the “No Talking Today!” masks.

2. 9.5 million CNY was raised for families with autistic members from 1.27 million kind people.

3. Posts and comments exceeded 17 million and the action received coverage from over 600 media.

4. The 2nd of April became the day of most silence and love in China’s history.

5. The “No Talking Today!” action shall continue in 2015.
