Background

Coke is one of the most iconic brands in the world – especially for older generations. We’ve constantly been at the heart of culture, a brand that’s always been relevant to the times.

Today, we need to maintain this relevance for the younger generation: Gen Z. Those who don’t learn their parent’s historical references but yearn to create their own.

We want to continue to embed Coca-Cola into today’s culture and amplify our proximity to Gen Z by addressing what’s most relative to them: The need for authenticity, but also a little bit of magic as well.

Idea

In a universe (gaming) where the primary intention is to battle one another, Coke will become the key instrument that helps people put their differences aside to come together.

It will bring to life the power of Real Magic across dimensions, showing the world how we are only one Coke away from one another.

Strategy

With this generation, we need to go beyond speech, and bring to life the meaning of real magic through their own cultural codes.

This entails embedding our message in a space they believe to be magical, a space that’s an extension of their lives, a space where they can connect with one another.

Because the ultimate proof of Real Magic is allowing it to come alive in a world where they least expect it: Gaming.

Gaming is in the DNA of Gen Z – and it is our optimal playing field to converse with our primary target in a way that is not only relevant but also impactful.

A sector that’s booming and reaching millions of people, gaming has the power and scale to spread Coke’s message that Real Magic is possible.

Execution

This film was a massive SFX challenge: we had to build a storytelling within an entire MMO fantasy game universe with reliable depth and graphics. To do that we had to create video game assets for real, but to create this in only two months, we had to innovate.

For the first time ever, we decided to associate advanced precal software made for the Film industry to Real-time tools made for the video-game industry.

Maya and Unreal Engine, were not meant to work together. To Create this post production performance, we had to create our own hybrid workflow.

Parts of the film that could have been done with Maya were seamlessly achieved with the Unreal Engine. It allowed us to respect tight deadlines by bringing onboard two different teams: team Maya & team Unreal Engine.

Associated with motion capture, this blending of techniques made things achievable without any compromises.
