Description
Each year, we do pro-bono work for the Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, with 2 aims: 1) Raising money for kennelling.2) Finding new owners for animals they’ve struggled to re-home and can no longer afford to keep. All this on a tiny budget.
Execution
We consulted with a Super Radio Network technician who confirmed that rural stations could broadcast frequencies as high as 75,000Hz: far higher than the usual 15,000Hz bandwidth limit of busy urban stations.
We approached 92.9FM, a radio station in Tamworth, which is a regional hub in the country, North of Sydney. When they kindly agreed to donate 40 free airings to the cause, we ran a 30-second radio ad on their station. Mixed under the voice-over was an ultrasonic frequency (at 20,000Hz), a sound that humans can’t hear, but dogs can.
Outcome
While we didn’t get as many donations as we hoped, the response from potential adopters was inspiring. Seven dogs who’d spent months in the kennels and were about to be put down were finally given a loving new country home.
