Execution
To encourage people to buy our seeds and grow plants at home, we used the promise of a jackpot to target and overcome their number 1 obstacle — laziness.
The solution ingeniously employs a game of chance to raise interest for the cause. No other charity organisation in Singapore has ever used a jackpot for the greater (or greener) good.
More importantly, the idea positioned the Garden City Fund as a fun and innovative organisation. One that's serious about promoting the green cause. And creating a win-win situation for both Singaporeans and the environment.
Outcome
The world’s first botanical game of chance gave participants an extra impetus to increase Singapore’s green spaces – from the comfort of their own homes. We cultivated their newfound interest in horticulture through regular tips, tweets and information on our website.
So while every packet of seeds raised funds for the Garden City Fund, the idea also raised greenery in Singapore. Because for every 10,000 plants grown at home, the city gains the equivalent of 1,000 new trees.
The campaign is still running at the time of writing, and the winners will be announced after 31 July 2013.
