Our insight was that modern protestors attend multiple protests for multiple causes.

Meaning every time they need to make a new placard.

We were thinking how the slogan t-shirt was how protestors traditionally displayed a strong opinion.

But the slogan t-shirt only works for a single cause.

What the modern protestor needs is a flexible canvas to display different slogans depending on the protest.

So we invented the Folk Protest Jacket, a jacket with built-in LED panel, and mini-keyboard so you can write and wear pithy slogans in real-time.

It gives every protestor the chance to express how they feel at that precise moment in the heat of the protest.

You can also pre-programme slogans in the jacket’s memory and display at a moment’s notice.

The biggest innovation was creating a flexible computer to sit on the front of the jacket and across the chest of the wearer.

The principle is edit, go. The Jacket has a front panel which is filled with high power LEDs and a small computer, this is powered by a battery that is in one pocket and controlled by a mini keyboard in the other. With the brightness on low the panel will work for hours, potentially outlasting your mobile phone.

We made 5 jacket prototypes.

At launch we created a website folkprotestjacket.com where we asked people to give us their email addresses if they were interested in owning a protest jacket in the future.

Our plan is go into commercial production with the jacket assuming enough interest.

The retail price will depend on demand.

The more people order one, the cheaper the production will be.

Folk has its own online store, 4 physical stores in London and many distributors all over the world.

The launch at the end of 2017 gained significant coverage in the creative press and a piece in the FT.
