Background
Washing hands with soap protect kids against germs that cause diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, and other diseases. But it’s not easy to get kids to use soap and it’s also impossible to find it available all the time, especially in public schools and outdoors.
Idea
It's not practical to take a bar soap with you everywhere. That's why we thought of an engaging and fun way to always have soap in the hands of children everywhere. That's how Protex To Go was born, a sticker designed for kids, with Protex inside. When the sticker comes into contact with water, it releases Protex protecting children from germs.
Strategy
Protex To Go encourages young children good hand washing habits early, and avoid preventable diseases. To achieve this, we have partnered with schools, teachers, local community leaders, and mothers making it easier for South African kids to have soap at every tap.
Execution
The sticker sheets were placed in the kids' school materials. It was also distributed to mothers and community leaders in places where kids frequently play. The action was carried out in areas in South Africa where cases of contamination and diseases caused by germs were more prevalent.
Outcome
This resulted in better awareness and connection between hand washing habits at an early age and Protex. The activation provided personal and targetted education that emphasized the importance of soap when washing hand's.
The children were more excited about washing their hands, parents and teachers also became increasingly aware of the lack of soap available.
