Description
48% of car drivers between 18 and 29 years have admitted to accessing the Internet while driving. Thus each year thousands of car crashes in Germany are caused by drivers surfing the internet on their mobile. Unfortunately.
Thus we came up with an innovative radio idea for our client Volkswagen.
We aired a new radio service: “Real Time Internet News”. It informs drivers about the latest internet trends. So they’re up-to-date without looking at their mobile. But on the road instead.
With "Real-time Internet News“ Volkswagen is the first car brand that supplies car drivers with the latest trends of the internet – for a good cause. This service makes the roads safer for all road users.
Execution
Since internet trends change quickly, we researched the latest web trends shortly before the spots were recorded. And then aired them in real-time – made possible by cooperating with the radio-stations. Due to the fact that radio is still the number one medium for car drivers, we placed the idea on the radio. And to make people aware that surfing the web while driving is a serious problem, we staged the idea as a news format.
Outcome
One thing is for sure. Once people knew what’s happening on the web, there was no more reason for them to look at their smartphone. Letting car drivers jump on the internet with their ears, made their eyes focus on the really important things: the road and traffic.
