Description

This is a promotional film for Pocket Symphonies, the radical debut album by young classical composer, Sven Helbig. In order to attract new target groups to modern classical music as well as shake up the established classical music scene, the film depicts the, "rebirth of classical music." It takes place in a hospital delivery room where "old classical music" puts all of her strength into giving birth to a child. Orchestral musicians support her by accompanying the birth on their instruments. In the end the exhausted but happy mother cradles the baby in her arms, symbolizing Sven Helbig’s "new classical music," style.

The visually striking film was distributed nationally as a cinema commercial and via Youtube, Vimeo, and all the social media channels maintained by the artist and his label, DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON/Universal.

Execution

Can you imagine a full orchestra accompanying a birth? We shook up the established classical music scene and attracted new target groups to a fresh, modern classical music style by depicting the, “rebirth of classical music,” in an audio-visual format. The film takes place in a hospital delivery room where "old classical music" puts all her strength into giving birth to a child. "Old classical music" is represented by a woman whose body is tattooed from head to toe in musical notes taken from famous classical pieces.

Orchestral musicians support the pregnant woman by accompanying the birth on their instruments. The music in this promotional film is entirely original, created expressly for the spot by composer Sven Helbig. The Fauré Quartett appear as the solosits. The piece was conducted exclusively for the film by Grammy-nominated conductor Kristjan Järvi. All orchestral sections were performed by the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.
