Description
Environmental sustainability depends on 3R model: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. According to this model, because of the energy consumption of recycling,we should consider reducing and reusing before recycling. So instead urging people to recycle Beko cardboard boxes, our aim was to make people to reuse these boxes.
We know that "hand made" objects are rising trend among our target audience, millennials. They not only prefer to buy hand mode goods but also loves to make them whenever possible.
Cardboard as a material is a perfect raw material to create many different kind of objects by using everyday tools. Many new designers are already experimenting with cardboard objects and millennials love them.
So we saw it as a perfect opportunity for our initiative .
Execution
We created guides from recycled paper to help people make everyday objects from cardboard boxes with everyday tools.
These easy to use step-by-step guides are segmented by the difficulty level where people can choose between the guides according to their handcraft level and the product boxes they can be made from.
Rebox Reuse Guides can be obtained from Beko Stores and no purchase of a product is necessary.
So far we have 10 reuse guides for objects that vary from toys, tools and home decoration.
Every guide comes with a cutting guide attached to the backside. This cutting guides will help people to cut out the parts that needed from the box. Then with the help of the guide parts will be easily assembled and without any adhesive and become a new shiny object.
Outcome
As reusing approach widely known and appreciated throughout the consumers our guides will become a new segment for home improvement. They can easily obtained from not just in Beko Stores but in every supermarket and home improvement store.
Rebox Reuse Guides can be used on any box so implications are not limited to Beko boxes. In the future there can be a pool of guides where people participate share their own objects so it will not just be an initiative that a brand had started but will become a movement.
Data is still coming but the in-store installations of the products made with Rebox Reuse Guides, increased stores traffic by 35% which 80% of that increase are families that have children.
Through this initiative Beko targets to reduce their environmental impact by 17% which will eventually contribute to brand value
