Description

To create a portfolio which not only showcases the work, brand, and skills of Resn, but also the company’s personality, playfulness and legacy.

The centrepiece, the Resn drop was the portal into the site - filled to bursting with interactive mischief and technical daring-do hidden below a calm premium surface. Its faceted style represented each one of us, a smooth drop is one entity - we are many.

An organic juxtaposition to the interactive mayhem would be created through a clean custom user interface and minimal design layout for ease of access to the more traditional features and functionality of a portfolio website.

Execution

In terms of implementation, placement and scale, the website was produced for all possible desktop screen resolutions and mobile devices, both tablet and mobile. Our goal was for all users to experience the site equally, without having to reduce or downgrade.

Of critical importance was the mobile experience as we knew a sizable percentage of the audience would be viewing from their handhelds - If it worked for desktop, it had to work on mobile.

The initial style presented to the user was that of a clean, modern, matured Resn design language. A sense of calm reflectiveness was at play until the user interacted, whereby the drop held a myriad of visual styles as a strong contrast to the homepage.

The project menu and layouts for each project were relatively simple, allowing the work from each to speak for itself.

To really encourage users to start exploring the website we purposely created a unique and uncommon site navigation. A single icon sat in each corner without labels, forcing people to start interacting. Our goal was that many users would be caught off guard and perhaps confused at first, yet this was exactly what we wanted - a true ‘experience’.

Nuanced animations drew user’s eyes to an unusual overall site navigation, where each corner held a single icon.

The process was one of inclusion of many Resn team members, from developers to designers, concept artists to copywriters a showcase of our many sides and talents. However, strong creative and art direction maintained the balance that was needed.

The timeline was around three and a half months, but 9 years in the making!
