Background

Toyota Gazoo Racing embodies Toyota’s commitment to overcoming every limit to make ‘ever-better’ cars, to forge new technologies and solutions under the extreme conditions of motorsports, and to never stop innovating. The first-ever GR Corolla took the Corolla Hatch, made it a hot-hatch beast and got people excited. The GR Corolla is the wild child of the Gazoo Racing family.

Idea

“Running Wild” opens on the GR family of cars posing for a family photo at a press event. Suddenly, music kicks in and the GR Corolla powerslides across the pavement, photobombing the picture. It continues to drift sideways past an enthusiast tuner show, onlookers spread out to give it room. It continues its powerslide through a Pro Rally event, kicking up mud on the dirt course. It slides through a GR Racing Paddock, following behind Ryan Tuerck in his Formula drift car. Finally, it kicks the clutch, shifts hard, and heads right back up to full speed, drifting sideways through a never-ending desert as the VO chimes in: “The wild child has arrived. The first-ever GR Corolla.”

"Running Wild" successfully increased audience favorability and purchase consideration of the GR Corolla. Further, the video spot effectively communicated messaging of Toyota's full racing lineup, with audiences more likely to have a better understanding of the larger Gazoo Racing sub brand.
