Description
The aim of this project was to remind people to watch their children swimming in the water, so as to prevent drowning.
Execution
Research shows that many drownings occur while the parents are either sleeping or reading on the beach. We decided to target those who were reading by handing out bookmarks, which were in the shape of a hand in distress. When placed in the book, it served as a visual reminder for parents to watch their children, and was also branded with a message to further reinforce the communication.
Outcome
People welcomed the bookmark as it served a dual purpose - a useful bookmark and a powerful reminder. The National Sea Rescue have commended the idea as, “one of the most simple ways of effectively saving lives that they have ever employed.”
