Description
We created Sensorial Tours Ecuador, the world's first inclusive tourism circuit with accessible routes, specially designed for travelers with visual disability, hearing impairment and reduced mobility. Now, all of them can enjoy Ecuador in a unique way, like never before, maximizing their other senses through amazing and unforgettable sensorial experiences across the country.
Execution
We designed 3 routes, one for each handicap: a route for tourists with visual disability, a route for tourists with hearing impairment and a route for tourists with reduced mobility. Every one includes 3-4 experiences that stimulate all of the tourists' remaining senses. Blind tourists can feel the roar and breeze of the Seven Waterfalls, listen to the chant of more than 2000 birds and smell the unique Ecuadorian cacao. Hearing-impaired travelers can learn -in sign language- the vast history of Quito, marvel at the Cotopaxi volcano and recharge themselves with volcanic energy. And tourists with reduced mobility can venture into the Amazon jungle on specially adapted personal transportation with assistance, and feel the rush of extreme sports. Each circuit has instructed guides (including interpreters), hotels and restaurants, adaptive buses, signage and special printed material. All routes, destinations, experiences and booking options became available through the website with accessible tools.
Outcome
After the implementation of Sensorial Tours, inclusive tourism increased 57% in Ecuador.
