The Simpsons Movie online campaign offered a thrilling interactive experience and ignited a worldwide viral phenomenon. Users could finally create themselves as a Simpsons avatar in their likeness. Nearly four millions users registered with the site and over six million unique characters were created. They spread these to friends and family all over the viral world, inviting everyone to become a Springfield resident. A viral wildfire exploded. They were emailed and posted in every possible place: social networking sites, YouTube, and had entire Flicker groups devoted.
