1 in 3 Singaporeans dies of Cancer. Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) is the foremost Volunteer Welfare Organisation that helps and supports cancer patients and their caregivers in their cancer journey.

2014 is the 50th anniversary of SCS and it decided that its golden jubilee was a golden opportunity to raise awareness about cancer, encourage early cancer screening and showcase SCS’ welfare schemes.

Lavender is the universal colour in the fight against cancer. Coincidentally, Lavender is also the name of a train station in Singapore. SCS decided to takeover the entire Lavender train station for the whole month of February, starting World Cancer Day (4th Feb).

All available media space at the station (from the bulkhead posters at the station entrance to the concourse, the fare gates right down to the train platforms) was used to highlight 50 key facts (50th anniversary, 50 facts…) about cancer, the benefits of early screening and SCS' history and welfare programmes with the help and input of Cancer survivors, medical staff, volunteers and partners in a never-done-before manner.

Free cancer screening for age-eligible Singaporeans was also offered as part of this Lavender station takeover, announced by the Health Minister who officiated the launch.
