Description
A CD called 'Noises from the engine' containing tracks of gritty engine sounds and mechanical faults was created. The CD was placed in the glove compartments of all new and used Mercedez-Benz vehicles sold. The concept (explained by two 'mechanics' on the CD) was simple. Instead of waiting for your Mercedez to develop a problem (highly unlikely of course) you could play the CD and fake one, thereby getting a chance to test-drive the Smart as a courtesy car. Posters promoting the CD were also placed in Mercedez-Benz dealerships to reinforce the concept.
Outcome
70% of recipients of the CD requested a Smart as a courtesy car when booking their Mercedez-Benz in for a service.
