OVERVIEW

Background

Chevrolet believes that renewable energies have the power to change the world. Not only for the industry evolution. It also generates an impact on the environment and improves people's quality of life, providing new education opportunities, this being the most important aspect for the future of the new generations.

Nowadays, it is important for brands to be part of the 2030 Agenda by bringing new possibilities to the world and people through renewable energy. But, even in this century, there are many communities that does not have electric energy and with it, not possibility for a proper education.

But, knowing this we asked ourselves one question:

Can renewable energy reduce inequaliies in forgotten communities?

And our goal was to create an school kit for the "back to school" time of year, that would help children in their efforts to learn more and make their dreams come true.

Idea

We took the sun’s energy to turn it into their most important school tool.

Introducing: Solar Kit, a backpack to catch the sun's energy to learn, experiment with it and bring light home.

The SolarKit has:

1. A solar panel that can be recharged through every step and lasts for 2 days.

2. A flashlight that uses solar energy to help children to learn and light up their community at night with a capacity of 110 lumens, can handle 50h with 10 lumens.

3. A foldable table at the back of the backpack that helps them to study in every place.

4. Solar Electronic Set 6 in 1 for experimenting and enhancing their creativity.

5. A Solar Roof Board that will allow them to power computers, screens and much more.

Strategy

The Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) reports that in Colombia 4.445 schools are currently without electric energy. This means that children of indigenous and secluded communities do not have the same opportunities for their future in this world.

Insight: We took advantage of their most important natural resource: The sun's energy. And transformed it into the main tool for learning. We believe that renewable energy technologies can bring balance to the world and make people’s life more equal with opportunities in education, lifestyle, and well-being.

Key message: Clean and renewable energy like sun's energy can improve children's education and of course their lives to make them shine.

Target audience: Indigenous community called the Wayuu, an important and ancient population in Colombia that lives secluded from the world because of its territory and armed conflict.

Execution

First, we thought about the indigenous children's equality needs under 3 conditions:

1. La Guajira desert is one of the most propitious places in the country to take advantage of the sun's energy.

2. Its community does not have enough space to concentrate and study.

3. The nights are very harsh for children and their families due to the lack of light.

To make an approach we needed to first, understand their culture and second, get closer to them by living in their houses.

After knowing their customs, traditions, and culture, we use their behavior like the cult of the sun that they have and we created the Solar Kit. With this idea we do not harm their culture, we just improve their traditions to make them a better life with their most important natural resource: The Sun.

Outcome

With Solar Kit, our goal was to create an outdoor to help education conditions, but we have changed more than that, by bringing them the advantage to catch the sun's energy through the Solar Kit, we improve their well-being in every aspect.

• Now children can study and help their families at night with light. (110 lumens)

•
Now they can connect with the world using a computer.

•
Now their school always have electric energy.

• Now they can experiment with the sun’s energy and bring light home.

The news was reached by traditional media of the country and the world, which publicized the initiative across the continents (Forbes,Adlatina, CaracolNews, PortafolioMagazine, ElEspectador, BluRadio, Ultravioleta, ImpactoVenezuela, HeadTopics, eseuro.com).

It was so well received for people across the world that we are going to share the plans for the SolarKit on a landing page, so it can be built anywhere.
