Our film opens on a medal ceremony during what appears to be an Olympic-type track event. Following the customary playing of the gold medalist’s national anthem, the medalists join hands on the podium in a sign of unity. A young track volunteer gets caught up in the moment and naively offers her hand to the silver medalist, who warmly accepts it. Like wildfire, the spirit of togetherness ignites, as track officials join in and spectators leave the stands to become part of the human chain. The chain exits the stadium and suddenly people around the world are joining together. Young and old, people of all origins take to the streets (and the skies), hand-in-hand until the chain goes across the planet and back into the stadium. But it is uncertain whether the chain will be completed, until a young boy fills the gap, and the world stands together as one.
