Description

This film celebrates Canada’s inclusiveness towards immigrants in a time where the world feels more divided than ever. We hear first-hand from real, street-casted Canadian immigrants telling us snippets of their inspiring journeys to find an accepting home–in the actual locations that they actually live and socialize in. These raw, personal stories are cut together to create one single narrative that represents the larger national attitude of openness and acceptance—along with celebratory moments that express the joy of finding a place to be accepted.

Execution

We started with street casting, reaching out to cultural organizations and immigrant groups on Facebook. Some people arrived in Canada recently, while others settled generations ago. Some people came for opportunity, while others sought refuge. We brought interesting candidates in for intimate casting sessions, an interview with the director and a rolling video camera. These stories inspired the film’s narrative and the locations featured, and some of these raw casting moments even appear in the final edit of the film.
