Description

When creating Teatern, we wanted to challenge the idea of a classic food court. In a theater of food, we gave ten of Sweden’s top chefs a 20m2 kitchen to present their take on fast food. The creative idea is based on the fundamental idea of a traditional theater. Scene-like kitchens, seatings inspired by the amphitheater, a foodish, genuine and playful graphic identity. In addition, the meals are affordable and smart. The idea of Teatern was to create a place for people to meet and eat - contributing a remarkable boost to the area.

Execution

The design elements and its touch points are divided into two categories:

1. Architectural elements.

2. Graphic identity.

The most important architectural elements created are the circular kitchen scene, including 9 kitchens, each 20m2, and the seatings in different levels creating a unique amfi-theater atmosphere, over-looking the chefs in action. Finally, the round shape of Teatern creates a world of its own, separating the buzzling galleria from Teatern in an efficient but not excluding way.

The graphic identity works threedimensional – as a logo, on packaging and integrated in the design environment.

The materials are simple, robust and carry a natural roughness. They are selected to develop a timeworn patina. Each element and furniture/lighting piece (with few exceptions) are designed by us.

We’ve been highly involved and responsible for design in all stages of the project, from idea to design and implementation. 

The food court measures 650m2. 250 seatings.

Outcome

Teatern is already a great success, acclaimed by international media, foodies and locals. The brand value added to the area and to the mall is remarkable. The mall has seen an increase in vistors of 10% since start, the sales of surrounding business are increasing and the f&b sales in Teatern are above expectations. A new spot in the city to meet and eat has entered the market.

To sum up, the achievement against client’s first brief hit everyone’s expectations. We challenged ourselves hard, we believed in this unlikely place in Stockholm for this kind of concept and we succeded in creating a place for a wide range of target group, making a change to the food and beverage industry in a highly competitive city, Stockholm.
