OVERVIEW

Background

Healthy eating is an art. It should be seasonal, regional, sustainable and delicious. More than 75% of Germans buy organic products, while the revenue from organic food has increased by more than 50% to over 10 billion € in the last 10 years. In times of global warming and increasing health awareness, a seasonal and sustainable diet plays a central role.

Kaufland, one of the largest food retailers in Europe, puts great emphasis on a sustainable fresh assortment consisting of high-quality products from the region - key to this: a good relationship with local producers and suppliers. That's why Kaufland wanted to thank its producers and suppliers of fresh products in a special way at the end of the year.

Idea

Kaufland didn't want to thank its producers and suppliers with a simple card, but rather with inspiration as to what can be created from their products. The result is a unique calendar consisting of twelve works of art created solely by preparing seasonal food. Baking paper, trays and cutting boards became canvasses. Painted with nothing but the natural colors of seasonal products. Everything was real, fresh from the oven.

Execution

The twelve works of art were photographed directly during the cooking process. Close, fresh and unaltered. Each individual month shows only ingredients and recipes that fit the respective season - a colourful overview of the year. The works of art were printed on magnetic paper, invisibly held and framed by an also magnetic cutting board. Embedded in a high quality white packaging that pulls itself back to focus the attention on the elaborate calendar and its richly coloured prints. And at the end of the year, the cutting board itself became a canvas by being reused in the kitchen - as a cutting board and magnetic knife holder. Because that is the sustainable art of the season.

Outcome

200 calendars were sent to Kaufland's producers and suppliers. The feedback was so positive that Kaufland decided shortly afterwards to also create a recipe brochure for their end customers based on the idea and the artistic photos. This way, Kaufland's customers also had the pleasure of experiencing the beauty of seasonal products - and recreating the recipes themselves.
