Overview

Background

Soccer is played by over 270 million people and 100 countries and has the power to unite people all around the world.

Despite this –racism is still an ongoing issue in soccer.

Breeze wanted to remind people that soccer has the power to overcome racism.

Description

Breeze is a major sponsor of youth soccer in Asia and wanted to celebrate the power of soccer to bring together different races.

So they created the Ball for All – they took high-resolution photos of young soccer players from around the world – then paired their skin colours with matching Pantones. So each segment of the Ball for All was based on the actual skin color of a young soccer player from a different ethnic background.

The Ball for All was used in Asia’s biggest youth soccer tournament - The JSSL7’s where it was played with by 13 countries, 160 youth teams and 2000 players and seen by 12,000 spectators – where it helped spread a message of racial unity in soccer.

Execution

First they took photos of the skin of young soccer players from around the world.

They then paired each skin color with an identical pantone.

They used each pantone to color a different segment of the Ball for All.

So every single segment of the Ball for All is based on the actual skin color of young soccer players from different countries and ethnic backgrounds.

They were inspired to base the design on the old-fashioned black and white soccer ball since it’s outdated – to show a new way of thinking.
