Description
The Bathroom Store is a hidden camera film created for Andrex toilet tissue and Unicef to raise awareness for this shocking statistic. By creating a scene of rural Angola in a luxury bathroom store we enabled customers to step into the lives of over 1 billion people living without a toilet. This shocking juxtaposition made our statistic tangible for consumers and gave it context that was relatable to their own lives. We wanted to inform, educate and create an experience that would stimulate discussion.
Execution
We took over a London bathroom store on one of their busiest days of the year and transformed a luxury suite into a scene of rural Angola. Unsuspecting customers were then lead by a casted salesman to discover the everyday sanitary conditions of over 1 billion people hidden between the marble and stainless steel of surrounding suites. As they stood in stunned silence the salesman relayed harrowing statistics about the global sanitation crisis and hidden cameras captured their reactions from every angle. We also recreated the experience in the store catalogue by putting the ‘Angolan suite’ on sale for customers who missed the installation. The film was shared online and featured in numerous blogs.
Outcome
Approximately 3 million people reached, over 900,000 video views and importantly £250,000 raised. Enough to change the lives of 60,000 Angolan children and families.
