Description
We told the story of an athlete with the odds stacked completely against her: Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan, a young girl carrying the hopes and dreams of one of the world’s newest nations onto a global stage as South Sudan’s first-ever Olympian. We brought to life how Samsung technology allowed Margret to feel the presence of their countrymen, even though they couldn’t physically be there. Globally launching the rallying cry of #DoWhatYouCant, and inspiring the rest of the world to lend their support to an athlete and nation that’s an inspiration to us all.
Execution
We launched the film worldwide on YouTube two weeks before the 2016 Olympics began.
Outcome
More than 41 million web views during the Olympics, topping AdAge’s list of Most Viewed Online Videos. Over 22.5 million views on YouTube, nearly 500% above the 2016 average for all of Samsung’s YouTube videos. 26.8k mentions of #DoWhatYouCant during the Olympics, the second-most mentioned brand hashtag of the Olympics.
