Background
People put up with jobs they dont like. FINN.no/jobb is Norways largest employment solution-website. We needed to make people act, and apply for new jobs.
Idea
Our insight was: If you hate your job, you spend your week waiting for the weekend. Counting the hours to Friday. The solution: We made a unique timepiece with one simple purpose: counting down to Friday. The painfully slow motion of the watch-hand reminding you through the week: having a boring job is a waste of time.
Strategy
The watch became the center of a larger campaign. We used it as the main visual in outdoor, print, film and online. We also made a social media competition where you could win the watch (valued at more than 5000€). All you had to do was explain why you, more than anyone else, had a particular love for fridays / distaste for your current job.
Execution
Together with watchmakers from Norway and the UK we created a world first. The watch hand spent one entire week for a full rotation. The weekdays were marked in place of hours. This was made possible by connecting the watch-hand to the mechanics of the date wheel.
Furthermore we made a product commercial to explain the innovation and the idea behind it. In prints and outdoor the picture of the watch was accompanied by headlines such as "Do you need a new watch, or a new job?" and "Life is more than waiting for Friday".
Outcome
FINN.no/jobs experienced a 9% increase during the campaign period. The ad for the watch was on the top list of "Most seen ads" that year. More than 50 000 Norwegians wrote in, explaining why their relationship to Fridays made them worthy of winning the watch.
