Description
A traveling puppet master brings his tale of The Harrowing to the people of Bilgewater. Little do they know that the puppet show is just a pre- cursor of whats to come.
Execution
The entire film was created in CG. Two main styles were used. There is the puppet world and the real world. The puppet world was designed to look like a centuries old traveling puppet show. Textures of wood, fabric, and metals were all used to create the world. The sets and characters were first designed as concept art and then modeled in Zbrush in 3D. The textures were painted in Mari. Reference of real puppet shows was reviewed in designing the animation style. Animation was all done using Maya through key frame animation. The Real world look went through a similar process, however the design of the characters were more based in reality and the anatomy of humans. The puppet-master, our one fully rendered human character was animated first with motion capture to get the general animation roughed in and then key framed in Maya on top of that to finesse certain movements. The lighting and FX work was designed to create tension and mystery that elevate the story.
