Background
To raise awareness of Apple's new assistive technology for those with speech loss, Personal Voice, we focused on an intimate use of the human voice - telling a bedtime story. ‘The Lost Voice’, depicts the tale of a young girl and her magical friend, as they search for his missing voice, before revealing the story to be narrated by a father to his daughter using Personal Voice. It features a genuine user of the technology whose Personal Voice was authentically used to create the narration.
Execution
To cast The Lost Voice, we collaborated closely with a genuine user of the technology. Dr Tristram Ingham has muscular dystrophy, which results in the degeneration of his speech, but Personal Voice allowed Tristram to recreate his voice on his own iPhone before it was lost, so he could continue to speak and sound like himself. The film was narrated entirely using Tristram’s own voice. The result was a film about the power of speech, created with and featuring an authentic voice from the disabled community.
