Background
People needed comfort more than ever in 2020. And, with its thick, crispy crust, the Original Pan Pizza is the ultimate comfort food. Our goal was to communicate the main product benefit of our thick, heavy pizza in a simple, tangible way with a thick, heavy blanket.
Idea
Targeting pizza lovers of all ages, we decided to take the warm, toasty feeling of eating an Original Pan Pizza to a whole new level. Collaborating with Gravity Blanket, the world’s most popular weighted blanket, Pizza Hut served up a limited-edition Original Pan Weighted Blanket, almost as warm and toasty as our legendary pizza itself.
Execution
Our blanket design packed 15-pounds of luxurious comfort into a premium micro-fleece duvet cover to help soothe even the hungriest pizza fans. Combining the revolutionary power of “deep touch pressure stimulation” with the delectable design of our Original Pan Pizza, we screen printed high-resolution images of our Original Pan Pizza onto the top and bottom of our blanket for a photo-realistic and hyper-craveable end product.
To further reinforce the connection between this comforting blanket and our comforting pizza, we created custom packaging that looked like an extra-extra-extra large pizza box.
Outcome
The Original Pan Weighted Blanket sold out in less than 10 hours, earning more than 600 million impressions. But the real winners were all the toasty pizza fans who spent their holidays swaddled in 15 pounds of cheesy microfleece.
