Description
The rainwater drinking fountain: A bus shelter that collects and filters rainwater.
Brazil has lots of rain, and we figured we could use that in a sustainable way to offer clean, fresh water for everyone. Instead of building something from scratch, we figured we could adapt an existing structure. Since we needed people to be around it, the bus shelter offered everything we needed.
Execution
We partnered with an OOH company, and together with their engineers, created these adaptations that included a 300-litre tank, a filtering system and a water fountain for easy use. People could even choose between cold or regular. It took a few months to get it just perfect, and then it was working flawless.
The first one was placed in Curitiba, one of the rainiest capitals in Brazil. The exact location was right in a busy avenue right in front of the state's largest university. This way we could be sure that not only there would always be people on the bus stop, but also on traffic passing by it.
And to ensure safety, the water quality was tested everyday, always with good results.
Outcome
During the two weeks of the first placement, we reached thousands of people, either on the bus stop or passing by.
But more importantly, we filtered and purified hundreds of litres of water, and hydrated thousands of people. Sustainability was the core of this idea, and no one that waited for the bus there stayed indifferent. People took a closer look, read the information, tried to figure out how it worked, and of course, drank water. This way, people could see and feel that Crystal is dedicated to sustainability.
And because the whole system was designed so that adaptation could be as simple as possible, now any place in the world can make this idea happen there.
