OVERVIEW

Description

Le Mans is not just a car race, it’s a testament to endurance. The Ford GT is not just a car, it’s evidence of Ford’s dedication to craftsmanship and their drive to create a car that’s on the leading edge of innovation. This is the story we wanted to tell viewers about Ford. The film includes the highs and low of the journey. From the setbacks, as components on the Ford GT fail and cars crash during the race, to the ultimate triumphant ending with the Ford GT winning the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Within this context, we gain insight into Ford’s overall culture, the company’s ability to innovate and be on the leading edge of technology and to compete to be the world’s best

Execution

The team shot in five countries over two-plus years. We had the added challenge of shooting for short-form, long- form and VR, while following the development and creation of the Ford GT race car and the street car, simultaneously. This was all accomplished with an extremely modest budget. Erich Joiner directed, Oscar-winner Robert Richardson was one of the cinematographers on the film and Skywalker Sound was responsible for the sound design and final mix. In terms of the execution, storytelling and creative integrity were of utmost importance. First and foremost, the content had to be entertaining. We understood that if we produced content that felt like marketing, we’d fail.

Outcome

Amazon Prime Video bought the feature-length documentary and the film was also an official selection at the 2017 Newport Beach Film Festival.

A New York Times immersive interactive ‘smarticle’ allowed viewers to engage with Ford and the GT story in a unique way. Travelling through time and experiencing the twists and turns of the Le Mans track, through historical photos. With just the swipe of a finger viewers were able to see how the design of this legendary car had changed over the last 50 years.
