First we made a TVC that focused on the difference between Coop and the other chains, and that the customers are actually the owners and share the profit. The TVC also showed what you as a Coop member could buy for your bonus. We thought it was time to take that knowledge and focus one step further. Could we talk about this subject closer to the shopping experience? Could we say it more frequently? That's how we came up with the idea for the talking scanner. We also made posters, stickers and other in store materiel so the customers knew what to listen for, and why we did it. We had to make the new "beep" subtle to avoid it wearing thin for the employees (and customers).
Outcome
This is a small scale test project at the time being, and has just started. But already the response from customers and employees is great. In a random survey 28% of the customers noticed the change of the beep and were able to connect the message to the brand.
Coop is concidering to install The talking scanner in all stores. Already Coop have made an app where they have implanted the Talking scanner. So if a client wants to scan his own goods, he or she hears "Litt ditt" (A bit yours) every time.
