Description
A love story that spans over 101 years about how small mistakes in communication can have a big difference. A very, very old man, 119 years old, reflects back on his life, speaking to his great grand child about when he searched for his loved one during WW1.
Execution
There were many unusual challenges making this film. One of the biggest was that a large part of it is taken place more than 100 years ago and there were, not one, but several different locations - from a 1914 post office, a 1914 London street, to boats, harbors, vehicles, old maps and a small compass. We needed to learn about warfare - when is the bayonet on, when is it off. Hats or helmets. Exactly how did the trenches look, what was in them. What did the news paper headline say in the UK when the war broke out!? Were women allowed into pubs. And so on. We wanted to make everything as historically correct as it can be.
Then there was the aging process and to find two actors that would "age with credibility and dignity". The two young actors were to age 101 years during the film, both reaching the age of 119 years. Both their heads were molded in plaster then the masks were created on those. The actors were also given individual made old persons set of teeth and eye lenses. The full process took 4 weeks. The masks were used on shoot and minor tweaks on them were done using CG.
