Background

Verizon and Snapchat partnered to create and actualize what a world looks like when Verizon’s 5G network powers Snapchat’s world class Augmented Reality platform.

Idea

Verizon invited Snapchatters to a concert experience of tomorrow... today. Where the exclusive ticket into the show was their phone. Using a proprietary visual data collection process, Snapchat engineers transformed the New York City Public Library into an AR stage for GRAMMY nominated band, Black Pumas. At a time when real-world concerts were impossible, Verizon, Snapchat and the Black Pumas found a way to reach their fans with the creation of the first-ever 5G concert on Snapchat.

Strategy

The infancy of the 5G revolution is upon us, but the problem was the power of 5G is tough to comprehend. The insight was simple, the current state of 5G feels more like a theory than a reality -- if you don’t know 5G, you really don’t know 5G. To make it feel real, Verizon invited Snapchatters to a concert experience of tomorrow... today, where their exclusive ticket into the show was their phone.

Execution

Verizon and Snapchat turned the famous New York City Public Library into an AR stage. Snapchatters used their Snapchat camera to scan the front of the library to unlock a full length concert experience from GRAMMY nominated band, Black Pumas. Using motion-capture, the lead singer of the Black Pumas, Eric Burton, was transformed into a digital avatar. Every element of Burton’s performance -- from his voice to his physicality to his playing style -- was rendered in rich detail -- bringing Black Pumas from the studio to the heart of New York City.

Outcome

- The creation of the first-ever 5G concert on Snapchat.

- The concert experience was 10x bigger in scale than any previous Augmented Reality build in the history of Snapchat

- The concert resulted in more than 33 million impressions for Black Pumas and Verizon.

- More than 30,000 fans saved their Snaps to relive the concert over and over again.
