Description

Ask any pilot, and they’ll tell you that the best way to see the world is from the air. Those of us that travel the skies often will nod their heads in approval. But there are some places that planes and helicopters cannot access; metres away from the sides of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, or just off the rocks of Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. How about skimming the tops of pine trees in a beautiful Scandinavian fjord, or the tiles of a Japanese shiro.

The aim for the View from Above series was to create films that made the viewer feel that they were there, seeing some of the world's most iconic sights for themselves.

Execution

First, we scoured the globe for its best drone operating filmmakers.

Then we selected 19 breath-taking destinations, From Amsterdam to Auckland and Seattle to Sydney, for them to capture, creating a unique set of content that inspires wanderlust.

The series launched in mid January. Hosted on YouTube and embedded on a dedicated, and beautiful microsite.

Outcome

The outcome was an original series that, before 2015, would have been prohibitively expensive and technically impossible.

The series was an immediate success and has been watched over six million times so far. More impressively, and importantly, it has broken benchmark records with a view through rate of 36%. This is over three times the YouTube average of 11% and demonstrates the intrinsic watchability of the films. It also drove 75,000 visits to the Emirates wesbsite from the YouTube channel.

This, coupled with the global press coverage generated by the series, has prompted Emirates to include the videos in its world-class inflight entertainment system as well as in its airport lounges
