Description

Horus is a wearable device, the ultimate solution to enable visually impaired and blind people to fully connect with the world. Horus transforms visual information into vocal messages that the wearer can listen to.

In the beginning it was only a visionary project in the mind of two brilliant engeneering students - Luca Nardelli and Saverio Mugia - who needed to raise funds quickly in order to bring the first prototype to life and to potentially help over 285 million people around the world who live with blindness everyday.

Considering that there are 1,000’s of start up initiatives in Italy and many of them based on great, breakthrough ideas, Horus needed to stand out to persuade potential sponsors to invest.

A crowd funding campaign was created, utilizing some of Italy’s prominent VIP’s. Over several weeks 18 of them were filmed while performing their daily actives blindfolded, to capture what it felt like for them to lose connection with the world around them.

The campaign quickly generated 600,000 visits on YouTube and on official social channels of the endorsers raising over 150,000 Euros in donations in this period, far more than Luca and Saverio needed to bring their prototype to life in the first year.

With additional funds new video content were created with a collection of the best videos broadcast on the Horus site. And this gave also the opportunity to film the first prototype in action in the daily life of a blind woman.

By the end of 2015 Horus had raised enough funds to start full scale production of Horus, and the company became partner with the Association for Retinitis Pigmentosa in Genoa.

After the initial 150,000 Euros raised an additional 1million Euros was risen.

The company quickly grew from 3 people to 10 employees within a year, aiming to have a total staff count of 15 people by the end of 2016.
