Description
DIRECTV’s technology is stuck in the past. So we used an equally outdated song to prove it.
In the film, XFINITY envisions what a group of overzealous DIRECTV executives would do with their next big marketing campaign. We watch these middle aged men and women dance in ill-fitting pantsuits to the one-hit-wonder 80s track, “We Built This City” by Starship.
As they wave their clunky satellites in the air, they sing lyrics that highlight all the annoying drawbacks of being a satellite TV subscriber. Their rendition of “We Built This Thingy” shows DIRECTV executives in all their oblivious glory, touting product benefits that are out of date and out of touch.
In the end, their performance is interrupted by two savvy XFINITY subscribers sitting in their living room. This couple reminds the ignorant DIRECTV execs about their unreliable satellite technology and explains the benefits of XFINITY.
