Description
A young Ukrainian soldier calls his grandfather, a veteran who fought during WWII in the Soviet Army, to congratulate him on Victory Day - a national holiday commemorating the end of WWII. The young soldier is trying to confess he has taken an Order of the Red Star (Soviet Union military decoration for bravery), but his grandfather interrupts him - he already knows that. The strict grandfather is trying to find words of care and asks whether his grandson wears “a hat” (instead of “a helmet”). The grandson smiles and says the Soviet slogan “Happy Victory Day”. His grandfather replies “Glory to Ukraine". It was especially important to have the Ukrainian characters speak Russian in order to reach audiences of Russian-speaking Ukrainians. The film has Ukrainian subtitles.
The dialogue:
- Hello, grandpa! I want to congratulate you! How are you there?
- Thank you, grandson. Good you remember that. My jacket is ironed, my orders are on me.
- Grandpa... I want to tell you one thing...
- I know! Where do you keep it?
- In the left pocket... under my heart.
- Did you... put on your… hat?
- I did! Happy Victory Day!
- Glory to Ukraine!
