Description

On Weetabix “Dancer,” production was tasked to create live dancing bears that spring to life as our heroine enjoys a spoonful of Weetabix Chocolate Spoonsize cereal. While most would turn to the aid of CGI or animation, directing duo wanted to preserve the tactility, homemade quality of everyone’s favorite stuffed doll. Stretched on a thin budget of 150 thousand pounds including production, VFX, and talent, we were faced with the challenge to construct four life-sized loveable bear costumes to be worn by trained dancers, specially designed to allow for mobility which was a construction feat. Dancers donning the suits were shot against green screen then composited beside the young heroine of the spot. Subtle styling changes were made to the bears to ensure that not only would each teddy appear different on screen, but that their look would become an extension of their choreography, be it backflips, bicycle kicks, or high kicks. With its dazzling visuals, pulsating track, and high energy, Weetabix “Dancer” manages to bring out everyone’s inner child and much of its charm is due to the fact that it was done without the aid of special effects. The making-of video is also available.
