Description
Researchers at the University of Tokyo have discovered that the sound produced during the writing process helps the writer concentrate. We therefore developed a writing board with a built-in device to amplify the sound of pen on paper using a microphone
Execution
In partnership with the University of Tokyo, Japan’s most advanced center of research on sensory science, a mechanism was developed for amplifying the sound of pen on paper and feeding it back to the writer. Based on that technology, product and graphic designers collaborated on planning, designing, and perfecting an electronic device with wooden board and practice pad.
Outcome
In December 2015 the board was tested on second-graders, and it was found that using it increased concentration when writing kanji by 160%. It is now in experimental use at schools and in romper rooms at commercial facilities, and has started to be sold.
