The Data Center Mural Project is a partnership with artists to reimagine the exterior walls of Google’s data centers. The objective: inspire people to learn more about the places and people that make modern life possible. Artists were given blank canvases in the form of windowless walls (some larger than a football field) to create mural artwork inspired by the engineering, employees, and communities where these data centers reside.

This multifaceted project includes an interactive website, site specific films, as well as local community events & educational initiatives.

Globally, billions of requests are sent to “the cloud” every day, but still few people know this information flows through physical locations called data centers. Inside are the people and machinery that keep the web running 24/7.

Locally, some people distrust what’s happening inside these facilities due to their non-descript appearance, high level of security, and lack of transparency.
