Cultural / Context information for the jury

Pelé is one of the most recognized sports icon of all times. He is Athlete of the 20th Century and the only player in history to win 3 World Cups. We can say that he was an influencer even when influencers didn’t exist. But young people didn’t see him playing and don’t know how brilliant he was. We used that and the fact that in 1969, 50 years ago, he scored his thousandth goal wearing Puma boots to pay tribute to Pelé with another thousand goals on the fields that young people are playing now: videogames.

Tell the jury about the art direction.

In 2019, Pelé celebrated 50 years since he scored his 1000th goal wearing Puma boots. To help younger generations understand how great Pelé was, we created a movement inviting them to score 1000 goals again, now on e-games. We created an identity combining elements of the player, the glory, the king and the e-fields. The Blue color was there for a reason. It’s Pelé’s favorite color because it is his mother’s name, Celeste. It also means sky blue in Portuguese.
