OVERVIEW

Background

The problem of the climate crisis is no longer a scientific problem. Scientists have said enough. The next move is on us, but governmental responses fail to inspire trust and action. Research shows that nearly 65 % of global youth surveyed feel that governments are failing young people. Their communication is full of jargon and complex data that do not resonate with us, leaving us feeling terrified and powerless. We crave transparency and actionable insights.

With the media pumping out depressing images of the effects of the climate crisis, we are increasingly pessimistic about the future and do not realize that the smallest steps toward a climate-safe future begin in our local environments. What we need is to see the change being made in our communities and to feel part of a positive movement for progress.

Describe the creative idea

The government is failing us, so we made our own. Meet the Government for the Future, the first-ever global government led by women.

The Government for the Future is a fictional digital government created as a response to governmental distrust and failure, powered and led by women of Project Dandelion. In the Government for the Future, every citizen of the world has a chance to become a member of the Dandelion Parliament, cast their vote(s), and see the direct change it makes in their local community.

The Government transparently highlights local (and global) climate issues and works closely with local NGOs, giving the members of the Dandelion Parliament a chance to actively help those in need in their local communities—by digitally blowing a dandelion. By joining the Parliament, members don't only use their voice at their local level but also become part of a global Dandelion movement.

Describe the strategy

The Government for the Future comes to life on all social networks of the young—Instagram, TikTok, X, and Threads—characterized by transparent, bold communication. The contact point for all channels is the gamified Government for the Future landing page, where anyone can become a member, sit in, and vote in the parliament.

We create a literal Dandelion Parliament. Each member has their own parliamentary chair in the dandelion garden, where four dandelions grow every month—four chances to blow and directly help those in need in their local environment through local NGOs. Members can choose from specific acts of help, such as: “Help the Novak family rebuild their home after catastrophic floods in Slovenia.”

By creating a powerful platform of hope and showing individuals that they can directly impact their local community with their voice, we empower people to share their “wins,” encouraging others to join the movement and do the same.

Describe the execution

The Government of the Future connects with local NGOs and offers to use its powerful social media platform to highlight their projects in exchange for letting members of the Dandelion Parliament “take credit” for their good deeds.

Upon joining the gamified Dandelion Parliament, each member receives a shareable certificate of The Dandelion Mandate. With each blown dandelion, they are encouraged to share their good deeds on social networks and invite others to join and do the same.

The campaign lasts a little over a year and counts down until COP30, urging people to join or encourage others to help make a change. However, through collaboration with NGOs, it can live longer.

In addition to the landing page and social media channels, we also spread the word about the campaign with the help of local influencers and celebrities whose values match ours. They are among the first to join the parliament.
