OVERVIEW

Background

We want to empower digital noisemakers and frontline defenders who care about the climate crisis to join Project Dandelion leading up to COP30 because we need to accelerate action on the climate crisis.

Describe the creative idea

We'll co-opt influencer accounts with underutilized followings, turning their social accounts into sub-accounts for Project Dandelion. Together with climate justice advocates, we'll spread our urgent message to global audiences and grow our grassroots efforts. Instead of blocking out irrelevant noise, we'll add new conversations and actions that apply pressure to the world's leaders and politicians. Just like a persistent dandelion, our message will be impossible to ignore.

Describe the strategy

In a social movement dubbed #BlockParty2024, people are taking control of their social media feeds by unfollowing celebrities and influencers, with some high-profile figures like Kim Kardashian losing millions of followers. This trend highlights the desire for more meaningful content and a sense of community online. Mass action occurs when people realize they're not alone in wanting to filter out the noise.

Describe the execution

Partnering with influencers and celebs who support climate justice, we'll collaboratively co-opt their social media accounts, turning the platforms into ones owned by the Dandelion Project. First, we'll work with global influencers like Shailene Woodley on Instagram and Emma Chamberlain on TikTok. Without warning, we'll change their profile picture to our logo and username to Project Dandelion.

Leading up to COP30, we'll curate content encouraging people to mobilize through simple social acts. Global content creators who are passionate about climate justice will flood the new feed with their personal stories. We'll then pass the account to a new creator each month. During COP30, our Dandelions will flood the comment sections of their local politicians with a yellow flower emoji, reminding them of their commitments to climate justice.
