OVERVIEW

Background Text

- There is a significant disparity between men's perceptions of success and its portrayal in media. Research reveals that over 50% of men believe that media negatively impacts their feelings of success. Media portrays success for males through major milestones grounded in wealth, strength, and misogynistic attitudes, distorting their perception of what true success is and how it should be measured. It is crucial to showcase personal achievements that transcend conventional stereotypes.

Describe the creative idea/insights

- The Unstereotype Alliance will collaborate with social platforms to launch The Reality Check—a new symbol akin to the blue verified checkmark but dedicated to promoting authenticity. This initiative aims to help Gen-Z men recognize and question unrealistic portrayals of success, challenging stereotypes related to muscles, money, and misogyny.

- This symbol will appear on content that features stereotypes of male success, such as muscles, money, and misogyny. Content that fails to accurately depict diverse and realistic success stories will receive a red check, while content that avoids stereotypes will earn a green check. By introducing the Reality Check, the Unstereotype Alliance hopes to foster more authentic and inclusive representations of male success in media, and ultimately, spur a change in the type of content that brands and influencers put out.

Describe the strategy

- The Reality Check aims to counteract the negative impact of stereotypical portrayals of male success in media. By implementing a symbol similar to the blue verified checkmark across popular social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and X, the initiative seeks to promote authenticity and inclusivity. The red and green checks serve as visual indicators, guiding users to distinguish between content that perpetuates harmful stereotypes and content that offers diverse, realistic success stories.

- By highlighting and rewarding authentic content, the Unstereotype Alliance encourages brands and content creators to adopt more realistic and inclusive narratives. This not only educates Gen-Z men but also pressures media outlets to change their portrayal standards, ultimately fostering a healthier and more realistic understanding of male success in society.

Describe the execution

-Unstereotype Alliance will meet with Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and X to align on implementing the Reality Check across their platforms. Once the visual design and language are finalized, the campaign will launch during Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in June, ensuring prime relevancy.

- Through the use of A.I., all published platform content will be scanned for themes that relate to promoting stereotypes of male success. Content that features diverse and authentic portrayals of success will be labeled with a green checkmark, while content promoting them will receive a red check.

- This strategic approach not only aligns with a significant awareness month but also leverages advanced technology to ensure accurate and unbiased content evaluation.
