Background

The team was brought on board for this campaign to ensure that Squarespace’s ‘Make A Website to Sell Anything’ campaign could be completed within budget and time constraints. The utilisation of LED volumes and Real technology, which the director continues to pioneer for commercial storytelling, enabled innovative storytelling methods and allowed the crew to travel around the world in just three days.

Inspired by the tagline ‘A website that can make anything’, the brief emphasis the importance of incorporating fun into the creative and embracing humour. This approach was influenced by the success of Squarespace’s previous Super Bowl ad, ‘The Singularity’ starring Adam Driver. The key objectives were to create a visually engaging and humorous ad that effectively communicated Squarespace’s capabilities in a memorable and entertaining way, that would resonate with broad audiences.

Execution

To realise the ‘Make a Website to Sell Anything’ campaign for Squarespace, the Director created 17 bespoke environments. Every scene was purposefully thought out as its own self-contained world, using techniques specifically tailored to each backdrop.

In total, seven traditional sets and one puppetry set were built, two real-life locations were used, four virtual environments and three CGI backgrounds so that the team could travel around the world and complete the production in just three days.

Working in LED meant that resources weren't stretched and productions could take place in far reaching places like the Grand Canyon, Nepal, the Amazon rainforest and more.

The director's multidisciplinary approach on this job proves that with virtual production anything really is possible.
