Description
The rallying cry for support is conveyed through what seems like 'silent lips'. Upon closer scrutiny, the lips reveal shocking images of violence. Sharp, succint copy urges victims and the public to speak up against violence by calling WAO's hotline. As violence and abuse can happen in any strata of society, the postcards were widely distributed through postcard stands at restaurants, clubs, florists, lifestyle stores, colleges, community halls and LRT stations.
Outcome
In the two months following the distribution of the postcards, WAO recorded a 30% upsurge in calls requesting for counselling, legal advice and even shelter. By having WAO's phone number literally put straight into their hands, victims of abuse find it easier to call from wherever they are, whenever they need to. It was encouraging to note that 5% of the callers were not from the victims themselves but from their concerned relatives, friends and neighbours. The postcards succeeded in cracking the wall of silence that has shielded perpetrators of violence and so lets hope into the lives of the victims.
