Description
Arthritis is a diverse condition effecting people of all ages 24/7, there is no way that the already stretched NHS or other traditional methods can deliver people the kind of reliable information they need when they need it. And the scale of the condition, effecting 10 million people in the UK, meant it was impossible to carry out a 2-way conversation with every person to understand their information needs, in order to adapt the research of ARUK to those needs.
Until now
We have adapted IBM Watson to assist our audience, serving up the information from the organisation’s 80 years of research in a way that puts both that knowledge and technology seamlessly at the heart of their everyday lives. It makes finding the right solution for the right problem a momentary interaction and allows us to learn from the questions they ask and when they ask them.
Execution
It was imperative that we designed with a user centric approach that accounted for varying degrees of tech understanding as well as accommodating a responsive solution that adapted to all access points (mobile, desktop, tablet) people may use across varying times of day.
Utilising visual and UX design skills the app was created to offer an intuitive experience that maximised the power of the background tech whilst making it almost invisible to the end user.
The target was to create the app to test in this Beta which was launched late January 2017 with 500 people across the UK, with future phases set to roll out to optimise the solution for the remaining 10 Million people living with Arthritis in the UK.
As such this places Arthritis Research Uk at the cusp of technology, proving to those they serve that they will push all boundaries to assist their lives.
Outcome
At this point (Beta phase) the app is being used by 500 people across the UK on a daily basis.
