Execution
Tailor-made TV segments at prime time every night, with Marathon tips presented in a funny way, not only helped runners preparing for the event, but involved "Everybody's Marathon".We created a special figurine of Henry Wanyoike for an interactive game in magazines and online. A mini-concert with the radio station invited celebrities to show their support for the runners which attracted more young people's attention to the event. The biggest ever banner was flown in the sky by a helicopter on the event day over Victoria Harbour which told everybody in Hong Kong our event had started.
Outcome
The 2005 Standard Chartered Marathon broke the record, with more than 30,000 runners. Compared with 24,000 runners in 2004, this is a significant increase of 25%. Also, our event successfully became "talk of the town" with huge coverage in all media, including main news at all the local TV stations, newspaper and magazine titles, radio and Internet news.
