OVERVIEW

Description

Baxter sought to assist hemophilia patients with better managing their condition, especially the younger demographic and their caregivers who, research has shown, have a harder time tracking their medication infusions and bleeds. The goal for patients is to be able to track infusions and bleeds so easily that they are able to understand the correlation between consistent infusions and decreased number of bleeds, thus decreasing their overall average bleed rate.

The target audience is younger hemophilia patients who are tech-savvy with high mobile usage. The app simplifies recording, helping users track when infusions and bleeds occur quickly and easily.

In the three months after launch, the Baxter Beat Bleeds app has achieved a 4.4/5 star rating on the Google Play store. The app has received over 13,000 screen views, from over 415 visitors who view, on average 8.9 screens per visit over 4 minutes and ten seconds per session.

Execution

To kick off the project, stakeholder sessions were held with members of the Baxter team in order to get buy-in and approval of initial screen designs and usability. This was followed by rapid prototyping and clickable prototyping for stakeholders to validate the functionality and look and feel of the proposed app.

Once validated, the project was developed in agile segments. A Creativity Hub was set up with the entire team working on the app at the same time, which included developers, user experience architects, quality assurance analysts, creative, project managers and a lot of snacks. The app was created with all participants in the room, which contributed to the very quick turn around time and rapid course correction when any issues arose.

Outcome

In the first three months after launch, the Baxter Beat Bleeds app has already achieved great success, with over 13,000 screen views, from over 415 visitors. The average duration of each session is 4:10, with visitors viewing, on average, 8.9 screens per visit.

The app is very well liked by users, and currently maintains a 4.4 star rating (out of 5) on the Google Play store, with reviews that include:

“Timely Update. Looking forward for more. Great update! Thanks Baxter. With the calendar, reminders and records.” - Gerard T L Vaz
