OVERVIEW

Description

This film tells the story of a little boy who can’t get to sleep, so his father begins to read him stories of Ireland’s Ancient East from a big orange book. As he reads they are transported to the wonderful historical scenes and landscapes he describes. They see Vikings battle in Dunmore Cave in Kilkenny, and IRA soldiers being transported to the grim prison on Spike Island. They witness an early Christian monk lighting beacons on the site of the world’s oldest lighthouse at Hook Head, and an ancient Druid incanting on a Dolmen in the Cavan Burren.

Left alone, the little boy opens the book to read to himself. To his surprise, the pages are blank. As he puzzles over the empty pages, a voiceover says “Great stories stay with you forever.” Finally, we realize that his father was sharing stories from his own memories of Ireland’s Ancient East.
